Dr. Linda Niessen, DMD, MPH, MPP serves as Founding Dean, College of Dental Medicine & Vice Provost for Oral Health Affairs for Kansas City University (KCU) in Joplin, Missouri. KCU College of Dental Medicine enrolled its first class of 80 students in July 2023. Dr. Niessen is a diplomate of the American Board of Dental Public Health & the American Board of Special Care Dentistry. Her academic career includes serving as a faculty member on several dental schools, starting as a assistant professor and achieving professor with tenure. Dr. Niessen started her career in the US Public Health Service working with the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma in Talihina, Oklahoma. She is a past Chair of the ADA's Council on Dental Education & Licensure.
Dr. Niessen received her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (Phi Beta Kappa) from the University of New Mexico. She received her DMD, Masters in Public Health (MPH) and Masters in Public Policy (MPP), from Harvard University. Her passion lies in identifying programs, models and partnerships that improve the health & equity of the population, whether through education, research, reimbursement, new technologies and/or community service programs.
