A dental futurist, Dr. Margaret Scarlett has a vision that oral health can be achievable by a larger proportion of the US population. Two common oral diseases, dental caries and periodontal disease affect nearly every American. Using the best tools, she leverages data science to help scientists, clinicians and the industry advance prevention, care and treatment of oral disease for individuals, communities and populations to improve outcomes, Dr. Scarlett is an internationally recognized author, clinician, and speaker on the relationships between oral health and systemic health. As an innovator, Dr. Scarlett led efforts in oral and systemic health at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, retiring after more than 23 years of service. A Lucy Hobbs Taylor award recipient and past president of the American Association of Women Dentists, Dr. Scarlett is dedicated to ensuring more women dental leaders succeed in the Digital Age of Dentistry. A consultant to the World Health Organization, US Dept of State and over two dozen Ministries of Health, her proudest achievement is serving the Gullah community in three remote SC Sea Island dental clinics for five years.
